Ecto

I recently purchase Ecto (http://ecto.kung-foo.tv/), which allows you to quickly access your blog to enter new posts. One of the nice features about Ecto is that it allows you do special things like bullets, numbering, font styles, etc. I realize you can do this within your browser when you log into Blogger but unfortunately, those HTML features are not visible within Safari. They are visible within Firefox but for some reason Firefox keeps crashiing on me. Besides, I don’t want to have to open another browser.

Here are some examples:

  • Item #1
  • Item #2
  • Italicized print, bold, underline strike through color,

Blogging With AquaMinds NoteTaker: Blogging With a Virtual Virtual Notebook

I have NoteTaker and I have a blog at Blogger. But I have two problems. If I want to enter anything fancy (e.g., bold print) into my blog, I have to use something other than Safari as my browser. Internet Explorer doesn’t work either. For some reason, both Mozilla and Firefox won’t work on my laptop at all (they quit instantly) and they often quit after a short period of time on my eMac.

I read about ecto but didn’t buy it when the author had it on sale up until Dec.26 (2004). Ecto by itself would be a nice software title itself but when I read yesterday that an Applescript is available that allows you to put your NoteTaker pages into Ecto, I’m thinking it may be worth it to get Ecto.

Ecto – for easily posting blog posts

There is software called ecto that allows you to easily post to your blog. It has some nice editing features. It also spell checks as you type. One of the things I notice when posting to my blog in blogger is that if I use Safari, I don’t have access to various editing features so I have to use Firefox or Mozilla.

Here’s an example of what can be done with ecto.

  1. You can create a numbered list (which I have done here with ecto).
  2. You can choose the font and the the characters can be italicized, bold,
  3. underlined, and strike-through.
  4. You can change the font and the size (this is Geneva, 14 font).
  5. You can change the font color. (This the web-safe color, CC3333).
  6. You can create a hyperlink – My Learning Digitally Web site. You can specify whether the link will open in the same window, new window, same frame, or parent frame.
  7. There are other text-editing features that I’m not describing.

You can learn more about ecto by going to http://ecto.kung-foo.tv/
